“…an incredible opportunity to watch and perform in masterclasses with the world’s top Chopin specialists.”
Talon Smith, Fresno (2018 student)

6 Individual Lessons:

The Academy offers every participant lessons with each of our master teachers. Lessons take the form of smaller groups of 3 students sharing a two-hour session with their designated teachers to address specific issues regarding each student's performance as well as more general discussions regarding style and historical context.  Students will be assigned to 3 master teachers during the course of the week and have two lessons with each of the 3 assigned teachers. All lessons focus exclusively on the works of Chopin.  This year, our principal teaching artists include: Dina Yoffe, Hae Sun Paik, Wojciech Świtała, Dmitry Ablogin, Tian Ying, and Kevin Kenner.

Masterclasses/Lectures:

The Academy will feature specialized workshops and lectures fashioned to help participants with specific issues surrounding the performance of works of Chopin and the music of his contemporaries. Workshops are open to the general public free of charge.  This year we will be featuring Prof. John Rink of the University of Cambridge whose scholarly research into the works of Chopin will be focusing on the understanding and interpretation of the concert works of Chopin.

Concerto Audition

This year's Academy will also feature an opportunity to audition for a performance of one of Chopin's Piano Concertos with the newly formed Chopin Festival Orchestra led by concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, David Kim.

Festival Performances:

Students and the general public will have the opportunity to attend live concerts featuring our Academy piano faculty as well as carefully selected students of the Academy (based upon their pre-selection videos).  The Festival also includes an evening of jazz.

Social Events

The Academy prides itself in bringing our students together, not only to learn about music and perform, but also to forge new and lasting friendships so crucial to the emotional health and stability of young musicians.  This year we will feature a special evening of food and fun with a workshop on Polish folk dances with Robert Bronchard of the Polish American Folk Dance Company based in New York.

Tuition and Housing:

The cost of tuition to the Frost Chopin Academy is $1900 and includes free on-campus room (8 nights) and board (3 meals a day) as well as free access to practice rooms at the Frost School of Music. Selected cafes and shops on the campus of the University of Miami will also be open. All applicants will be considered for scholarships based upon the merit of their audition videos.

Those who prefer to make their own accommodations off-campus will receive an automatic $500 discount.  Parents are not permitted to stay in our on-campus housing. The Academy may be able to negotiate special rates for families at selected hotels near the university.  For those students who choose to stay at on-campus housing, there will be two dorm counselors who will see to the needs of our students.
