Brief Description

The 6th Chopin Festival opens its curtains with a world premiere, the piano arrangement by Konrad Binienda of Karol Szymanowski’s ballet-pantomime, Harnasie. This work is steeped in the folk traditions and music of the Górale people, which Frost Chopin Academy participant Jiana Peng will bring to life for solo piano. A much-awaited performance by celebrated pianist Dina Yoffe will follow featuring some of Chopin’s mazurkas and his deeply-expressive Fantaisie in F minor. A laureate of the Chopin and Schumann competitions, pianist Dina Yoffe will also be joined by her husband, winner of the Wieniawski competition and a student of the late great Oistrach, violinist Michael Vaiman, in a rendition of Chopin’s cello sonata for violin and piano.
